The high power laser therapy technology involves the emission of laser energy with a high power system that allows for average powers of the order of 10 Watts thanks to the diode system and to the optical fiber output and emission system.

These modes of supplying energy allow transferring an effective dose in depth without inducing an excessive heating of the superficial skin layers. A first important action performed by laser therapy is the "bio-stimulation" (photochemical effect). It determines an increase of the "energy state" with the activation of the mechanisms involved in repairing cellular damage.

Thanks to the high peak power pulse, the therapy is able to produce a photomechanical effect: it deals with pressure elastic waves that are spread creating a stimulating effect. The high-energy photons impact on the surface of the tissues generating pressure pulses that provide a micromassage which is really important for reactivating the microcirculation and the lymphatic drainage. This leads to a rapid and intense anti-inflammatory and anti-edemic effect.

In addition to the photomechanical and photochemical effects, it provides a photothermal effect. This generates a controlled increase of the tissues temperature, inducing a stimulation of the circulation with a consequent increase of oxygen to the suffering structures. These characteristics explain why laser therapy is recommended for a large number of clinical conditions.

The main feature of high power laser therapy technology (when used in pulsed mode) is the emission of high peak powers by means of short pulses. Furthermore, the pause between one pulse and the following allows the natural heat dissipation developed by the laser beam, avoiding dangerous thermal accumulations. The diameter of the light beam is another significant feature: a laser beam with a larger diameter allows a deeper penetration because there is the dispersion of the peripheral rays, while the central ones are able to reach the goal. Another relevant feature is the wavelength of the light beam that are particularly well adapted to spread in the tissues. This method is non-invasive and usually totally painless even though in few cases there may be a temporary increase in the existing pain; on the other hand it is quite normal to experience a rise of the local temperature.

It is extremely useful for the treatment of many painful and degenerative conditions, for example in the case of spine treatments, in the treatment of tendons disorders, for bruises and muscle injuries, for contractures and for pain therapy. High power laser therapy makes possible to safely treat all inflammatory conditions, providing an intense pain reduction and recovery of mobility from the first application. This effect can last from 4 to 72 hours and after few sessions can lead to a complete remission of pain and a complete recovery of mobility.
