Description

This document aims to be an introduction to pulley therapy, offering an overview of the treatment potential, also in the variety of suspension exercises of one or more body segments. Therapeutic indications on pulley therapy and contraindications are then provided, also underlining the opportunity to use it for preventive purposes. There are considerable benefits of this type of treatment, from improving the perception of one's body to awareness of the impact of exercise and correct movement. The therapist follows and guides the patient in the execution.

The method is presented in its key characterizing aspects, i.e. it allows individualized programs and with gradualness of the specific exercise. Treatment of the joints can take place with circuits in the absence of gravity, active and passive movements, and counter resistance provided by a weight. The movements are also studied for coordination exercises of the lower and upper limbs, of the head, in double suspension, and combined movements.

Pulley therapy can also play an important role in patient posture reconditioning and management programs.

A wide range of exercises documented with photographs and explanatory comments by the author Prof. Nedda Pellegrini are presented in this document to complete the introduction of the theoretical and practical bases of pulley therapy.
